Arcadia Enterprise 3.0.0

(ArcViz 3.0.0, ArcEngine 2.2.4)

This document contains release information notes for Arcadia Enterprise.

It is accurate at the time of publication. Arcadia Data updates release notes periodically after the software release.

Installation

Install Under Cloudera Manager

Arcadia Enterprise easily installs under Cloudera Manager. See our documentation on Installing Arcadia Enterprise Using Cloudera Manager.

Cloudera Parcels

Starting with this release, we are using Cloudera Parcels to enable simpler installation and management of Arcadia Enterprise. We support Cloudera 5.4 and subsequent versions.

See our documentation on Installing Arcadia Enterprise Using Cloudera Manager, and contact your Arcadia Data support team for more information.

Security

Role Based Access Control

Role Based Access Control enables fine-grain control over all data and feature access. Available only to Administrators. See our documentation on Role Based Access Control. Specifically, read the articles on Adding Roles, Assigning Privileges to Roles, Assigning Members to Roles, and Deleting Roles.

Third-Party Authentication

For properly configured Cloudera installations, Arcadia Enterprise supports third-party authentication with Sentry. See our documentation on Support for Sentry Authentication.

LDAP Configuration Support

Starting with this release, LDAP configuration enables ArcViz to authenticate kerberized clusters, using Sentry, against an MS Active Directory server.

To enable LDAP configuration, make the necessary changes to the settings_local.py file. This allows ArcViz to create accounts for users who log into Arcadia Enterprise with Active Directory credentials.

Contact your Arcadia Data support team for more information.

Administration

Changes to App Group Functionality

This release introduces several powerful updates to the App Groups interfaces. Consider reviewing them here:

Multiple User to Multiple Group Assignment

Starting with this release, it is possible to make a bulk assignment of multiple users to multiple groups, at the same time. See our documentation on Adding Multiple Users to Multiple Groups.

Analytics

Saving Derived Data As Expression Only

Arcadia Enterprise's enhanced Derived Data gives you the option to save only the expression used in the derived data, without the full context available in the previous releases. See our documentation on Saving Derived Data.

The Derived Data feature must be turned on through the Site Settings interface.

Save Table Option

When using a simple Table chart or Custom SQL, it is possible to save data either as a materialized table or as a logical view. See our documentation on Save Table.

Visualizations and Applications

This release introduces or extends the following new features used in building visuals.

JavaScript Extension APIs

With this release, Arcadia Enterprise has more general-purpose extension APIs for customizing the appearance of visuals. JS Extensions accept parameters that are specific to the target visual. See our documentation of Custom Style Extensions.

For a good example of how to use customization, see the discussion in Modifying Site-Wide Custom Styles.

Dual Axis for Line Charts

The secondary axis enables the placement of two measurements of vastly different scales on the same chart, to see correlation and pattern. See our documentation on Line Visuals with Dual Axis.

Analytical Functions

We made improvements in selecting sort functionality and domain of analytical functions. See the changes in our documentation of Moving Average, Percent of Group, Percentage of Previous, and Running Total.

Analytical Views

Aggregate Function Support

This release extends analytical views to support all aggregate functions available to Impala users, custom Arcadia functions, and user-defined functions. See our documentation on Aggregate Function Support, and specifics on Arcadia Engine Aggregate Functions.

Authorization on Analytical Views

Starting with this release, users' access to analytical views matches their access privileges to the underlying system. See our documentation on Authorization for Analytical Views.
