To enable application control for existing visuals, you must first place the relevant field onto the Filters shelf of the chart. You can then create an application that uses filter control elements; you may also edit an existing application. Optionally, you may choose to adjust the settings of this application, select among different modes of application controls, or even adjust application control values. And finally, learn how to use application controls.

For advanced application design, familiarize yourself with optional dimension and optional measure controls, and then with variable dimension and variable measure controls.
