Creating Dashboard Filters that Control Optional Dimensions

  1. Open a new application based on World Life Expectancy dataset.
  2. Add the visual Regional Populations to the application.
  3. In left navigation, switch to Filters tab.
  4. Click Create Parameter.

  5. Hover over the new filter until the controls appear on the top right.

  6. Click the icon (gear).

  7. In the Settings modal window, switch to Values tab, and enter the following:

    • Under Title, enter Display Country Details.
    • Under Output Parameter, enter dim.

      Note that this is the parameter from Creating Visuals with Optional Dimensions.

    • Leave Filter Columns blank.
    • Under Specified values, enter Value: country, and Label: Country.

    Click Apply.

  8. In the Settings modal window, switch to Display Settings tab, and select the options Permit only one item to be selected and In single select mode, include a 'No Selection' option. Ensure that no other options are selected.

  9. Change the name of the application to World Regional Populations.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Switch to application View mode, and select World Regional Populations.

  12. In the Display Country Details filter, select Country.
