Modeling Referential Integrity

Eager Aggregation works on left outer joins between fact tables and dimension tables.

• Fact Table

  The fact table keeps track of facts such as itemized sales. It contains the foreign key.

• Dimension Table

  The dimension table describes the facts further, providing relevant detail. It contains the primary key.

There are multiple implications of specifying the foreign key - primary key pair (pk-fk):

• The pk-fk modeling on one dataset is visible to other datasets based on the same tables.
• Any pk-fk edits made to one dataset affect dashboards and visuals on datasets that are based on the same tables.
