Refreshing Analytical Views

After defining an analytical view but before using it, you must run an initial 'refresh' to create the cache, and place the analytical view into a valid state.

Analytical views may become stale or invalid for a variety of reasons, and must be refreshed. In some circumstances, such as change in the name of a column, an invalid analytical view may be validated through the refresh process. At other times, such as when a column is removed from a table, a refresh is not possible; the analytical view remains invalid. You should then delete it and create a replacement analytical view.

Follow these steps to perform an initial refresh of the analytical view:

  1. Select the analytical views that we created in Creating Analytical Views, national_geo_lv_av_1 and national_geo_features_av_1.
  2. In the bulk action selector, chose Refresh Selected.

Alternatively, you can refresh one view at a time by clicking the (refresh) icon on its row.

  3. After requesting a refresh of an analytical view, a progress bar appears below the status indicator. It first states that the refresh is queued, or 'waiting to start', and then informs you of the approximate time left. During the queueing and active refresh, you can cancel the refresh simply by clicking (close) icon. If the refresh advances far enough, the cancel fails.

  4. Notice that both analytical views, national_geo_lv_av_1 and national_geo_features_av_1 are now 'Up to date".
