Arcadia Enterprise (ArcViz 5.0.0.0, ArcEngine 2.11.2)

This document contains release information notes for Arcadia Enterprise Release 5.0.0.0, and is accurate at the time of publication.

To see the notes for other releases, see Recent Release Notes.

In this release, we have these enhancements:

To see our certification matrix, read Certifications.

To see the catalog of known issues, read Known Issues.

Upgrade to this Release

Arcadia Enterprise upgrades to Release 5.0.0.0 from the baseline of Release 4.2.X and Release 4.3.X. If you have earlier versions of the product, you must perform a two-step upgrade: to Release 4.2.1.1, and then to Release 5.0.0.0.

Natural Language Search

In this release, we introduce Natural Language Search. This feature lets all users access data and create valuable visualizations naturally, without a deep understanding of query language and data modelling.

Using Search

To open the Search interface, click the Search button that appears on the top menu of the Arcadia Enterprise interface, and enter the search phrase directly. See Using Global Search UI for detailed information.

For embedded use cases, add a Search visual to your dashboards, as described in Search Visuals.

Dataset Configuration for Search
To dataset data through Search functionality, you must first enable the dataset for search. You can also configure it recognize synonyms, common phrases, and so on. See Dataset Configuration for Search Requirements.
Dataset Configuration for Time
We added dataset definition elements for date and time fields to improve the usability of Search. See Time Configuration for Search Requirements.
Search Types
See the documentation on Search Types to find out about hit highlighting, matching field names, suggested questions, historical searches, and other components that help you find and visualize the data you need.
Search Reference
For basic search rules, keywords, filters, rankings, and so on, see our Search Reference.

Enhancements to Datasets

Enable and Configure Dataset for Natural Language Search

To add the dataset to the search domain, you must enable it for search, as described in Enable the Dataset for NLS. You can specify what columns are visible to search, group datasets that should be searched together, and set the default aggregation column. You can also define search phrases, synonyms, and word expansions.

See Dataset Configuration for Search Requirements.

Time Modeling

Time Modeling makes all datasets work more smoothly with Natural Language Search by specifying the date/time column, its format, and the default time interval.

See Time Configuration for Search Requirements.

Enhancements to Visuals and Dashboards

Search Visual

This visual provides the Natural Language Search functionality in embedded dashboards.

See Search Visuals.

Maximum Canvas Size
In this release, you can enable the maximum width of canvas visuals. We found that Internet browsers sometimes crash when dealing with large amounts of data that pass through very wide streaming visuals. See Setting the Maximum Width of Canvas Visuals.
Enhancement to Dataset Delete Confirmation Modal

The dataset Delete Confirmation modal window now shows unlinked visuals, in addition to all the dashboards and linked visuals displayed earlier.

See Removing Datasets.

Option: Year-to-Quarter

In this release, we added a new option, Year-to-Quarter under Date/Time Functions.

See Date and Time Functions.

Option: Do Not Auto-Update Map Location

While the visual is streaming, if you manually move or change the zoom level in the map, even after auto-refresh of the visual, this option enables you to stay at the same location in the map.

See Not Updating Map Location.

Timestamp in Files

Starting this release, if you download a CSV, Excel, PNG, or a PDF file in visuals and dashboards, the filename has a timestamp specifying the date and time when the file is created.

See Downloading Visual Data to CSV Files, Downloading Visual Data to Excel Files, Downloading Visuals as PNG Files, Downloading Current Sheet as a PDF File.

Quotes in Numeric String

If you download a CSV file and open in Excel, leading zeros in a numeric string are truncated. To see the leading zeros, Arcadia Enterprise enables you to add quotes in a numeric string.

See Enabling Quotation Marks in CSV Download.

Data Connections

Arcadia Enterprise on EMR

We can now deploy Arcadia Enterprise on an Amazon EMR Cluster. For details, see the following topics:

Databricks / Spark SQL Connections

You can create fully managed Spark clusters on Amazon AWS Databricks or Microsoft Azure Databricks.

See Creating New Databricks / Spark SQL Connections.

SSL Support in Confluent KSQL Connections

Starting this release, Arcadia Enterprise provides SSL support in Confluent KSQL connections. You can use both http:// and https:// IP addresses.

See Creating New Confluent KSQL Connections.

ArcEngine Enhancements

Upgrade from HDP 2.X to HDP 3.X

Starting with Release 4.5.0.2, if you upgrade from HDP 2.X to HDP 3.X, you must create external tables.

For instructions, see Upgrading from HDP 2.X to 3.X.
